The opening round of qualifying at the Super Grip NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals delivered strong performances from established stars and tight competition across several classes on Friday at Bristol Dragway.
Top Fuel
Doug Kalitta set the early pace in Top Fuel with a strong 3.927-second pass at 311.99 mph in his Mac Tools dragster. Billy Torrence slotted into second with a 3.956 at 312.64 mph, posting the quickest speed of the session. Shawn Reed rounded out the top three with a 4.069 at 287.11 mph.
Leah Pruett was fourth at 4.237 seconds, while veterans Tony Schumacher and Antron Brown followed in fifth and sixth. Several drivers encountered issues or made conservative runs, resulting in slower times further down the order.
Funny Car
Chad Green grabbed the top spot in Funny Car with an impressive 4.189 at 242.84 mph in the Logan Industries Mustang. Austin Prock was second at 4.382 seconds, with Daniel Wilkerson third at 4.503.
Ron Capps, Jordan Vandergriff, and Alexis DeJoria occupied the next positions as teams continue to adapt to the recently repaved surface.
Pro Stock
The Pro Stock class produced one of the most competitive sessions of the day. Greg Anderson laid down the quickest time with a 6.687 at 204.45 mph in his HendrickCars.com Chevrolet. His son Cody Anderson was just 0.004 seconds behind in second (6.691 / 205.60 mph), with Matt Latino third at 6.693.
The top nine drivers were separated by only 0.063 seconds, highlighting the depth and parity in the class. Jeg Coughlin Jr., Greg Stanfield, Aaron Stanfield, Dallas Glenn, Eric Latino, and Erica Enders all remained in the top 10.
Pro Stock Motorcycle
Gaige Herrera leads Pro Stock Motorcycle after Round 1 with a 6.867 at 196.59 mph. Brayden Davis sits second (6.903 / 197.08 mph), posting the class’s best speed, while Angie Smith is third at 6.916 seconds. Richard Gadson and Joey Gladstone round out the top five.
Top Sportsman
Allen Firestone topped the Top Sportsman order with a quick 6.429 at 218.44 mph. Jeff Brooks (6.549) and Vince Hoda (6.554) were close behind in second and third.
Qualifying continues later today with additional sessions scheduled for Friday evening and throughout Saturday. Eliminations are set for Sunday, June 14.
