PDRA Returns to Thunder Valley for Third Annual Throwdown at Bristol Dragway
The Red Line Oil Professional Drag Racers Association is set to make its third consecutive visit to Bristol Dragway for the Thunder Valley Throwdown, scheduled for August 6-8, 2026. The event marks the fifth stop on the seven-race 2026 PDRA national schedule and brings the series’ full complement of professional and sportsman classes to one of drag racing’s most storied facilities.
Bristol Dragway, long known as Thunder Valley, will host the action on its freshly prepared concrete racing surface. Track officials completed extensive offseason work on the strip, giving teams a brand-new surface for the high-horsepower 1/8-mile competition that defines the PDRA.
This year’s event carries added significance with the introduction of the first PDRA Sportsman Spectacular. The special program increases payouts across the series’ sportsman and Junior Dragster categories, recognizing the competitors who form the backbone of the organization. Series director Tyler Crossnoe highlighted the importance of the initiative, noting support from partner companies that share the PDRA’s vision for rewarding sportsman racers.
Presenting sponsors for the elevated sportsman purses include Butcher Demolition and NexGen Race Cars for the $7,500-to-win MagnaFuel Elite Top Sportsman (presented by PAR Racing Engines) and Greenbrier Excavating & Paving Elite Top Dragster classes. Additional support comes from Fulton Competition Race Engines and C&C Chemical Co. for the $5,000-to-win MagnaFuel Top Sportsman and ATI Performance Products Top Dragster (presented by TBM Brakes). Mike Bos Race Cars presents the $2,000-to-win prizes in PDRA Pro Jr. Dragster and Classic Graphix Top Jr. Dragster.
The professional ranks will feature the full PDRA lineup. Switzer Dynamics Pro Nitrous (presented by Jerry Bickel Race Cars), WS Construction Pro Boost (presented by P2 Contracting and Ty-Drive), Liberty’s Gears Pro Street (presented by KTR Drag Racing), PDRA Pro 632 (presented by Mark Williams Enterprises), and 1320 Fabrications Super Street (presented by Brian’s Heating & Cooling LLC) headline the doorslammer action. The event is presented by Larry Jeffers Race Cars.
The Thunder Valley Throwdown arrives after the series’ traditional mid-summer break. Teams return to the track following the June event at Maryland International Raceway, with the Bristol stop serving as a critical mid-season points battle before the schedule continues to Darana Motorsports Park later in August and the Brian Olson Memorial World Finals at Virginia Motorsports Park in September.
Fans can expect three days of intense eighth-mile racing under the lights and during the day sessions at Bristol. The combination of a renewed racing surface, elevated sportsman purses, and the full professional field positions the 2026 Thunder Valley Throwdown as one of the more anticipated stops on the PDRA calendar.
