Racing Recap: Rusty Daniels and Levi Canup Sweep Twin Features at Southern National Motorsports Park

Lucama, NC – April 18, 2026 – A packed night of short-track action unfolded at Southern National Motorsports Park on Saturday, April 18, as drivers from five divisions battled on the 0.4-mile asphalt oval. The evening featured twin races in two classes and single features in three others, with clear dominators emerging in the Charger and Legends divisions.

In the Chargers Presented by KONI (18 entries), Rusty Daniels (#16) put on a masterclass, sweeping both 30-lap twin races. Daniels, who also posted the fastest qualifying lap (16.172), took the checkered flag in Twin 1 ahead of Tyler Chapman (#51C) and Justin Mitchell (#10M). He repeated the feat in Twin 2, again besting Mitchell and Chapman. Multiple drivers encountered trouble, with several DNFs and DNS entries across the twins, underscoring the competitive intensity of the class.

The Legends division (17 entries) delivered identical drama, with Levi Canup (#7) also claiming both 20-lap twins. Canup, quickest in both qualifying (17.349) and practice, led Twin 1 over Aaron Crumpler (#00) and Landon Barefoot (#006). In Twin 2, he held off Michael Bivens (#97) and Barefoot once more. Canup’s sweep marked one of the night’s most impressive performances.

Other division winners rounded out a successful evening for the home track:

• Any Cars (6 entries) – Andrew Watson (#08) wired the 15-lap feature, finishing ahead of Mike Sliger (#45), James Barbour (#75), Timothy Medeiros (#91), and Gabe Purcella (#99). Watson was also fastest in Practice 1.
• VRL Vintage Lites (7 entries) – Jason Austin (#4T) dominated the 20-lap feature, leading Tony Arnold (#18) and Shane Irving (#3) to the line. Austin set the pace in both practice sessions.
• Southern National Vintage Series (3 entries) – Billy Ray Lucas (#0) took the 30-lap feature win over Jimmy Hurley (#11M) and Joe Seeger (#61). Lucas also earned the top qualifying spot.

The event showcased the depth of regional racing talent at Southern National Motorsports Park, with strong fields in the Charger and Legends classes providing the bulk of the night’s excitement. No track records were noted, but the twin-race format kept fans on the edge of their seats throughout the program.
